Dr. Akizuki is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. He has served as the Assistant Orthopedic Consultant for the New York Jets Football Organization, the New York Rangers Hockey Organization, the New York Islanders Hockey Organization, and the New Jersey Red Dogs Football Organization. He was also the Assistant Team Physician at Hofstra University and Hunter College. In 2000, he began serving as a team physician for the San Francisco Giants Baseball Organization, a position that he still holds to this date.
His notoriety in the sports medicine world and his passion for sports also earned him the position of team physician at the University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, and Skyline College. In addition to this, he is an Orthopaedic Consultant for the City College of San Francisco and for Santa Clara University. Dr. Akizuki’s accomplishments and affiliations have allowed him to become well-known throughout the Bay area and the surrounding cities.
Dr. Saglimbeni is a native of San Jose. Today he practices pediatrics, internal medicine and his favorite field of medicine, primary care sports medicine. He serves as physician for the San Francisco Giants, Santa Clara University, San Jose Giants, Bellarmine College Preparatory, Presentation High School, Notre Dame San Jose, and West Valley Community College. His medical group now works with Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation (SOAR), in San Jose, Redwood City and San Francisco. He is proud of the new business he has formed, which includes some of his most respected colleagues and therapists and staff. His goal and that of SBSPMA is to provide the highest quality medicine experience to the citizens of the greater Bay area.
Clinical Interests include musculoskeletal medicine, preventive medicine and wellness, exercise induced asthma and he is most passionate about concussion care. In the last 2 years, he and his colleagues and a team of experienced sports medicine practitioners have formed the California Concussion Institute.
Dr. Chung is board certified in Family Medicine with an added CAQ (certificate of added qualification) in Sports Medicine. He has spent many additional hours of education and training involving the diagnosis and management of concussion injuries. He was raised in Southern California and moved up to Northern California to start a private practice. He did his undergraduate studies at UCLA and received his medical degree from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. He continued his education by returning to UCLA for his family medicine residency. Following completion of his residency he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah for his primary care sports medicine fellowship at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital.
Dr. Chung previously worked for large medical group Sharp Rees Stealy in San Diego before relocating to San Jose in 2002 to start a solo practice. In 2007 he joined South Bay Sports & Preventive Medicine Associates and continues to work for the medical group to the present. In addition, he has previously been a staff physician for Apple Computer’s onsite Wellness Program. Furthermore, he has been involved in several volunteer activities including a medical mission in the Philippines in 2001 sponsored by the Paradise Valley Lions Club. He is qualified to treat all musculoskeletal injuries and continues to broaden his expertise in sports medicine.
Dr. Parikh is a Primary Care and Sports Medicine physician that truly has a passion for medicine. He is currently the team physician for Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, CA and has been the on-site physician at the Stanford Tae Kwon Do tournament. He serves as the Medical Director for the annual 408K run in San Jose.
Prior to moving back to his hometown of San Jose, Dr. Parikh was a site physician at the US Olympic Training center in San Diego, CA, team physician for San Diego State University, associate medical director for Susan G. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer walk, a onsite physician at the BMX World Championship and an adjunct professor at UC San Diego Medical School.
Some of his other Past Sports Medicine experiences include the 2011 Summer X-games in Los Angeles, Hydroplane boat races, OMBAC Rugby, Mt. Carmel High School, Footlocker National Cross Country Championship, USA Water Polo International tournament and the San Diego Academy of Performing Arts.
Dr. Pete was born and raised in NYC. He is the chiropractor to many of the best pro athletes in the world including UFC stars BJ Penn, Jake Shields, and Gilbert Melendez. Dr. George Ambus returns for the SF Bulls’ second season as the team dentist. A native San Franciscan, he completed his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley and in 1991 earned his dental degree at UCSF Dental School. He practices all phases of dentistry including cosmetic, preventative, implant, Invisalign, and sports dentistry. Currently he is a member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry, Amercian Acadamy of Cosmetic Orthodontics, and is affiliated with local, state, and national dental associations.
