STOCKTON, Calif. - The San Francisco Bulls (17-21-1-5) earned a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Stockton Thunder (23-16-5-3), Wednesday night at Stockton Arena. Dean and Christian Ouellet both scored for the Bulls, and Cody Carlson had two assists in the loss. The Bulls picked up a valuable point in the Western Conference playoff chase, and have earned points in five of their past six games (4-1-0-1).
The Bulls found themselves in an early hole when Stockton scored only thirty seconds into the contest. Gabriel Levesque scored his fifth goal of the season to give Stockton the early 1-0 lead. Shawn Boutin picked up the only assist on the goal. The Bulls responded late in the period to tie the game at one. Rob Kwiet scored on a 5-on-3 power play with 19 seconds remaining in the period on a slap shot that beat goaltender Cody Reichard. Carlson and Peter Sivak assisted on Kwiet’s eighth goal of the season.
San Francisco fell behind again in the second period after a beautiful passing play by the Thunder on the power play. A nifty pass by Matt Reber led to a slam-dunk goal for Tony DeHart. Harrison Reed also picked up an assist on DeHart’s third goal of the season. The Bulls scored consecutive goals only 17 seconds apart to take a 3-2 lead. D. Ouellet scored his 20th goal of the season on a wraparound to tie the game after some excellent work by Alex Tuckerman to keep the play alive below the goal line. Then C. Ouellet scored his 12th goal of the season to give the Bulls the lead at 9:06. Carlson and Dylan King picked up the assists on the goal.
Stockton equalized the game, 3-3, at 2:06 of the third period on Ryan Constant’s fifth goal of the season. Maxime Boisclair and Reber assisted on the goal.
In the overtime period, both teams had opportunities to win the game on the power play but were not successful. Riendeau, Boisclair and Reed scored goals in the shootout to give Stockton the win. The Bulls were shutout by Reichard in the shootout.
San Francisco returns home to the Cow Palace tomorrow night, January 31, which is the last Thirsty Thursday of the season. The Bulls host the Ontario Reign at 7:15 pm. At select concessions, 12-ounce draft domestic beers are half off.
