SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Bulls Professional Hockey Team, proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today they have acquired forward Tyler Gron for defenseman Damon Kipp. In addition, the Bulls have signed former New Jersey Devils first-round draft pick forward Adrian Foster and defenseman Kalvin Sagert. Riley Emmerson was waived. With a rash of injuries to some of the team’s top scoring forwards, including Mark Lee, Dale Mitchell and Ryan McDonough, Bulls President, GM and Head Coach Pat Curcio was inclined to add some offensive power to the squad.
“These were moves we needed to make, and we had to work very hard to make these moves happen quickly,” said Curcio. “With the amount of offense we lost in such a short period of time it was necessary to go out and find some proven offense. We have been losing games because of scoring, so we are optimistic that with the additions of Adrian and Tyler we will change that. Adrian was a first round, 28th overall draft pick by New Jersey and has put up some really good numbers in the ECHL, AHL and in top levels of Europe. I’ve seen Tyler the past two seasons and know first-hand what he’s capable of. Kalvin will be a good addition to the defensive core. We expect he’ll get plenty of minutes on the blueline.”
Foster, 31, was drafted 28th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2001. The Lethbridge, Alberta native spent the 2012-13 season with the Idaho Steelheads, finishing with 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 26 regular season games. He then ranked first on the team in playoff points with 14 (5 goals, 9 assists) in 16 games. Foster ranked third on the Houston Aeros of the AHL with 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) in 70 games in 2007-08. He also finished third in scoring in 2008-09 on Salzburg of Austria with 43 points (19 goals, 24 assists) in 52 games. Throughout his career, he’s totaled 88 points in 200 AHL games and 61 points in 98 games in Europe. His only ECHL season was with Idaho in 2012-13.
Gron, 24, is in his second full season of professional hockey. He has four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in 13 games with Idaho this season. In his first season with the Steelheads in 2012-13, he produced 32 points (21 goals, 11 assists) in 34 games. The Spruce Grove, Alberta native also had 35 points in 31 games with the Bloomington Blaze of the CHL in 2012-13. Gron has played in three games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. Two out of the four seasons he played with Northern Michigan University, he led the team in points.
Sagert, 26, is in his first season of pro hockey. In 2013-14, the Abbotsford, British Columbia native has one assist in 11 games with the Wichita Thunder of the CHL. Sagert spent the last five years playing for Lakehead University of the CIS. He served as captain in 2011-12 and as alternate in 2012-13. In 129 collegiate games, he totaled 30 points. Sagert also finished with 92 points in 339 games in juniors in the WHL.
